Emphasis on Education and Innovation
The Chapter has become a leader in Minnesota in promoting innovation in education for family law attorneys, attracting both experienced and newer lawyers as well as law students to seminars it sponsors or co-sponsors.
Since 1994, the Chapter has offered an annual three day Divorce Camp at well known resorts in the Minnesota North Woods. SEE DIVORCE CAMP. (internal address)
Joining with other professional groups collectively known as MICOD (Minnesota Interprofessional Committee on Divorce) which has since merged into the newly formed Minnesota Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, www.AFCCnet.org, the Chapter regularly co-sponsored an annual one-day program of nationally known speakers on high conflict divorce. It continues to actively support selected family law topics by co-sponsoring Continuing Legal Education Seminars.
The Chapter has also developed a week-long case practicum with two of the local law schools, Hamline University Law School and William Mitchell School of Law. The practicum gives law students and new lawyers an opportunity to resolve a family law case using various out-of-court or in-court processes, allied professionals, and participants presenting with varying goals, styles and personalities. Chapter members teach the course and act as mentors for the student lawyers throughout the course. For more information on “Rethinking Zealousness” CLICK HERE
