About Divorce Camp

Since 1994, the Minnesota Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers has offered family law attorneys and allied professionals the opportunity to combine high quality and innovative continuing legal education with a long weekend in the famous Minnesota North Woods during prime fall colors.

The event draws attorneys whose practices range from traditional litigation to those limiting their practices to collaborative law, as well as CPAs, financial planners, psychologists, judges and other allied professionals.

Typically, the Chapter plans an interactive format, which varies in its specifics from year to year and has included: breakout sessions, simulations, small groups with facilitators, group participation “fish bowls,” and the like.

The daily schedule allows for casual networking plus free time to enjoy the recreational facilities at the resort, pristine golf courses, hiking and biking trails, and even gathering to knit at a well-known area yarn shop.

Saturday evenings feature “The Divorce Camp Players” who each year write and perform a spoof based on a musical or play. The content typically draws on actual course presentations.
